MATT ARAGON

NH: WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
MA: I am from Flagstaff, Arizona.
NH: WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
MA: I am a manager of a Poppa John’s.  And that is where my income comes from.
NH: DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST?
MA: Yeah.  I think anybody that creates something for the enjoyment for other people or themselves I guess would be an artist to me.
NH: WHAT IS ART TO YOU?
MA: Art is like I said...something that would provoke thought or further investigation upon a certain individual or yourself.  Anything that somebody could create.
NH: IS YOUR ART A HOBBY OR WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BECOME A FULL TIME JOB?
MA: Right now it’s mostly a hobby besides the illustration work.  I mean it pays but it doesn’t pay enough to live off of.  It seems like artists these days have to go to school and learn all kinds of technical stuff.  That’s not what I want to do.  There’s artists out there that make it without a formal education but most of them do have a formal education and that’s why they are famous I guess.
NH: DO YOU FEEL LIMITED AS AN ARTIST BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL INSTABILITY?
MA: If I was to try and make my total income on being an artist yes.  For me it’s not possible because I don’t attract a big enough audience and I don’t create enough art to be able to pay for that to be my only income.
NH: DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC VISION TO ME...
MA: What I do...I try to just make it visually appealing to me and I guess maybe to somebody else.
NH: WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO CREATE YOUR WORKS?
MA: From people.  From either what they are doing or them as an indivudal.  That is where most of my inspiration comes from.
