MATT ARAGON
MUSIC: I don’t listen to bands that much.  I listen to more hip-hop.  I guess what’s in my radio now is Sage Francis.  I think he’s a good artist.
BOOK: I’m reading a book called “Choke” right now.  I don’t know I haven’t really read that much into it.   I really like Lovecraft and I think one of my favorite stories by him is called “Pickman’s Model”.  It’s about an artist and it kind of attracted me cause it’s kind of the same thing that I’m into.  Yeah that’s one of my favorite stories.
WHO AND WHAT INSPIRES YOU: As far as art?  In art a lot of magazines inspire me.  I will see something in a magazine and that usually is what my drive is to create something.  To see something that someone else creates and that usually pushes me to create something.  Or people out in the streets.  I will take pictures of people and then either draw them or paint them.  I don’t really ask for permission.  I just kind of take pictures of them.  Usually they don’t know though so it’s all good.
WHAT SCARES YOU? Umm...spiders.  Big spiders.  What else scares me?  Big dogs.  I don’t like big dogs.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE? Yeah.

MATT ARAGON

NH: WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
MA: I am from Flagstaff, Arizona.
NH: WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
MA: I am a manager of a Poppa John’s.  And that is where my income comes from.
NH: DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST?
MA: Yeah.  I think anybody that creates something for the enjoyment for other people or themselves I guess would be an artist to me.
NH: WHAT IS ART TO YOU?
MA: Art is like I said...something that would provoke thought or further investigation upon a certain individual or yourself.  Anything that somebody could create.
NH: IS YOUR ART A HOBBY OR WOULD YOU LIKE IT TO BECOME A FULL TIME JOB?
MA: Right now it’s mostly a hobby besides the illustration work.  I mean it pays but it doesn’t pay enough to live off of.  It seems like artists these days have to go to school and learn all kinds of technical stuff.  That’s not what I want to do.  There’s artists out there that make it without a formal education but most of them do have a formal education and that’s why they are famous I guess.
NH: DO YOU FEEL LIMITED AS AN ARTIST BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL INSTABILITY?
MA: If I was to try and make my total income on being an artist yes.  For me it’s not possible because I don’t attract a big enough audience and I don’t create enough art to be able to pay for that to be my only income.
NH: DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC VISION TO ME...
MA: What I do...I try to just make it visually appealing to me and I guess maybe to somebody else.
NH: WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION TO CREATE YOUR WORKS?
MA: From people.  From either what they are doing or them as an indivudal.  That is where most of my inspiration comes from.

HEAR THE GOSPEL 02/10, Phoenix

ONCE AGAIN it was a fantastic night at The Dressing Room. I am sorry for my lack of photos this time, that night my back was killing me!! And it was really hard to be standing so long. But the good thing is that i got the chance to just sit and relax with the music of Wizards of Time and Netherfriends (from Chicago). Simply amazing. Oh... the only bad bad thing is that I didn't get to see Yairms(Jeremy)! I feel guilty.
