JP: Now I’m reading an interesting book by Paulo Coelho. You are reading an interesting book right now. It’s about the Mexican macho culture.

JV: It’s like a scientific book. What was the name? I don’t remember.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

JP: My dad. He truly has inspired me through my life.

JV:  Osho. He’s a philosopher from India.

WHAT SCARES YOU?

JP:  Right now being lonely.

JV: Nothing (laughter).

DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE?

JP: Yeah.

JV: Love? Love is the most important thing. That’s what love is about.

JP: Ahorita estoy leyendo un libro interesante de Paulo Coelho. Tú estas leyendo un libro interesante ahorita. Se trata de la cultra machista en México.

JV: Creo que es como un libro científico. ¿Cómo se llama? No recuerdo (risa).

QUIÉN O QUÉ TE INSPIRA?

JP: Mi papá. Él me ha inspirado a través de mi vida. 

JV: Osho. Es un filósofo de la India.

JP: Ahora... estar sola.

JV: Nada (risa).

          WHEN I SAW KANAE,  I knew I had to take her photos no matter what. She completely captured my attention with  her beautiful and powerful character and that nostalgia in her face.

          Cuando vi a Kanae, inmediatamente supe que tenía que fotografiarla. Ella capturó completamente mi atención con su hermosa y fuerte personalidad y la nostalgia que su rostro me ofrecía.

MÚSICA: Ahora... Charly García me gusta. Es un músico argentino de rock. Es el que yo tengo en mi cabeza ahora. 

LIBRO: Adán Buenosayres de Leopoldo Marechal. El mejor libro que he leído hasta ahora. 

QUIÉN O QUÉ TE INSPIRA? Me inspira un periodista argentino de la década de los 70´s que se llama Rodolfo Walsh que escribió una crónica policial que se llama Operación Masacre, acerca de un hecho que nunca había tenido justicia. Fue un fusilamiento y el tipo escribió sobre ese fusilamiento, llegó hasta el fondo de la investigación que nadie lo había hecho y buscó justicia y eso para mi me parece súper valorable. 

QUÉ TE DA MIEDO? ¿Qué me da miedo en la vida? Mmm... por ejemplo ayer tuve mucho miedo porque estoy viviendo en una casa  y de repente escuchaba ruidos en la cocina, como que se habrían los cajones y todo. Y para el broche de oro de la noche fue que estaba durmiendo y me despierta un ruido muy muy fuerte, creí que se había caído la tele de mi pieza en no se donde se cayó así de la nada. Bueno... esas cosas así inexplicables y que ahora suenan tontas son las que me dan miedo (risas). 

CREES EN AMOR? El amor? Si, sin duda.

BOOK: “Adan Buenosayres” by Leopoldo Marechal. That is the best book I have read so far.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU? I am inspired by a journalist from Argentina in the 1970’s named Rodolfo Walsh. He wrote a police chronicle called “Operation Massacre” about a crime that was never brought to justice. He wrote about an execution that had taken place. He got to the bottom of the investigation which no one had done and he sought out justice. For me that is very honorable.

WHAT SCARES YOU? What scares me in life? Hmm…for example yesterday I was very frightened because I am living in a house and suddenly I heard noises in the kitchen. It sounded like someone was opening all the cabinets. To top it all off later that night I was asleep and awoke to a very, very loud noise. I thought my television had fallen to the ground. Well…these unexplainable things that now sound stupid are the kinds of 

things that scare me (laugher).
DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE? Love? Yes, no doubt about it.

    During my stay in Tepic, Mexico I encountered this beautiful woman of shining creativity. Her light and energy are always pleasant. She reminds me of the beauty of silent film in the 1920's. Her name is Victoria Sellschopp, originally from Victoria, Tamaulipas. She is a great independent designer who is completely in love with her work.

She is the creator of the clothing line SIRUELA which began in 2006. Her inspiration has been described to me as an evocation of multiple feelings, like building a song one by one with her fabrics, with the most subtle and fine details, giving them a life of their own. I can say this because she puts her whole heart into her work. For Victoria, it's the fire in her life and she plans on continuing with creative rebellion until old age when her veins are interwoven with the most exquisite experience. My day started very early in her workshop, a place where surreal and delicate ideas are cut and sewn together and shared with us. I am entering the vulnerability of her creative space. The first thing I like is being surrounded by all these magnificent machines with their own stories. I love the feeling they give me. The stand where she keeps her fabrics, colored string and small buttons gives an exciting touch. Her husband Carlos is here. We start talking about life, art and music that inspires the three of us. It is an intimate environment and the memories have already taken us by surprise. Time passes so quickly and I already have to return home.

     En mi estancia por la ciudad de Tepic, México, me reencontré con esta preciosa mujer de creatividad deslumbrante. Su energía y la luminosidad de su rostro me es siempre grata . Me recuerda a una belleza de la época del cine mudo de los años 20's. Ella es Victoria Sellschopp, originaria de Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas.

 

Una gran diseñadora independiente que afirma estar sumamente enamorada de lo que hace. Creadora de la marca SIRUELA desde el 2006. Su inpiración me la ha descrito como una evocación de múltiples sentimientos, como si "armara" una canción para cada una de sus prendas, con el mas sutil y finísimo detalle, dándoles vida propia. Me atrevo a decir esto porque ella entrega el corazón. Para Victoria, es la flama de su vida y piensa continuarla con rebeldía creativa hasta la vejez, cuando sus venas ya se encuentren enlazadas a la mas exquisita experiencia. Mi día comienza muy temprano en su taller, el lugar donde se recortan y tejen las ideas más surreales y frágiles que ella nos comparte. Estoy entrando en la vulnerabilidad de su espacio creativo. Lo que me emociona al principio es encontrarme rodeada de todas esas magníficas máquinas con historia propia. Me encanta el sentimiento que me ofrecen. El estante donde guarda sus telas, coloridos hilos y diminutos botones, da un toque emocionante. Su esposo Carlos se encuentra presente. Comenzamos a platicar de la vida, arte y música que tanto nos inspira a los tres. Es un ambiente íntimo y los recuerdos ya nos han tomado por sorpresa. Las horas pasaron tan rápido y ya es tiempo de volver a casa.
